The following information comes from Sid and Mirka, on behalf of our soccer program:
This indoor season we registered 21 teams, we have a total of four u6 and u8 teams which do not qualify for post season. Of the remaining 17 teams, 9 teams played for medals today, although U-10 do not technically qualify for a "standing" medal, and receive a participation medal, to be playing in the cross-over means they finished in the top 4 in the city. Today we had the following teams playing in the crossovers:
The games I was able to catch were very exciting, although couple of the teams ended up losing in a shoot out. But I was very proud when other directors and coaches came up to me to comment as to how many McLeod teams were playing in the crossovers. But I will give credit to Daryl Hanak for sending us the following a few days ago:
I was doing a quick review on the community teams that are playing for indoor soccer medals next week. There are nine (9) McLeod teams in the running for medals! This is tied with Spruce Grove, but no other community in the City is even close. Of those, one qualified for provincials and four qualified for inter-cities. I suspect Calgary will smoke us in the inter-cities (as they do every year) but still, McLeod made a great showing in the league. You and all the volunteers should be congratulated for your hard work and perseverance for the year. Thank you.
So what, you say?
Well, I think you shouldn’t be shy about advertising both these types of successes in advance the coming spring season – both for new recruits and for sponsorships. McLeod Soccer is a winning product in more ways than one, and you should capitalize on it.
As an add on to Daryl's comments, Spruce Grove is considered a Zone, McLeod is a Community. Thank you Daryl for summing it up.
So if you have a chance please go cheer the following team on. The schedules can be found on the EMSA website for inter cities, and Alberta Soccer Association for provincials. And if anyone wishes to travel to Calgary to go cheer on the girls, the EMSA website has that schedule posted as well.
Kim Lazarenko's team is advancing to provincials in Edmonton March 15 and 16, 2008
Joe Capellupo, Sid Van derVinne and Darel Beres' teams are advancing to inter cities in Edmonton March 8 and 9, 2008
Christine Pompei's girls are advancing to inter cities in Calgary March 8 and 9, 2008.
Good luck to all of you, you should all be proud of yourselves and your teams, we have a great program and the only reason it is good is because of the people that are involved in it! Congratulations to all of you. Coaches please share this with your teams. Thank you.
